Tere Tohorā, Tere Tangata
Where Whales Journey, People Follow (2021)

Past, present, and future flow as one current. Generations walk shoulder to shoulder through life, death, marriage and migration. We can see ourselves in the stories of our tupuna, the love and fear, the accidents and the ambition, the innovation and exploration. And alongside us always, sounding through the fortunes of our whakapapa, are tohorā.

These works were produced with support from Paemanu Charitable Trust and were inlcuded in Paemanu– Tauraka Toi at Dunedin Public Art Gallery (2021).

Materials:  Gesso, oil paint (Gamblin reclaimed earth colours), traditional ink (tītī oil, soot, tarata gum, rautawhiri berry), kōkōwai (red earth and tītī oil), brass eyelets, on unstretched linen. Panels approx 60cm w x 100cm h.
